About the Department

Ghoksadanga Birendra Mahavidyalaya

The Department of History at Ghoksadanga Birendra Mahavidyalaya has been playing a significant role in promoting historical studies since its inception. The department began its academic journey in 2011 with the General Course, catering to students interested in understanding history as a foundational discipline.

In the academic session 2015–2016, the department expanded its academic offerings by introducing the Honours course in History, marking an important milestone in its growth. With the implementation of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in 2017, the department offered both Honours and Programme courses, aligning its curriculum with contemporary academic standards and interdisciplinary learning practices.

Following the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the department adopted the New Curriculum Credit Framework (NCCF) from 2023. Under this framework, the department now offers Major, Minor, and Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC) in History. This transition reflects the department’s commitment to academic flexibility, holistic education, and skill-oriented learning in line with national educational reforms.
